Sunday Shares #23

Been playing around with pattern and color and having fun in the process.

Currently have the “I’m tired of it being negative temperatures” blues. My power was out for close to 4 hours today. Thankfully it never got lower than 58ºF in my house.

It’s wild that in the spring, 58ºF feels great, but in the winter, all I want are piles of blankets on me!

One of many pages in my sketchbook strictly dedicated to pattern studies. This is me playing with an idea I have had in my brain for years that I’m still working on.

In between everything else that is required of me these days, I have started scanning my sketchbooks from this summer. A few of those sketchbooks consisted of nothing but patterns created from cheap markers I got at Costco years ago.

These days, I could spend all day filling up sketchbooks with all the ideas that live in my head.

What a dream it would be to just have the money to spend a year where all I did was spend time filling them up with the ideas that sit rent free in my head that I’m afraid will be forgotten if I don’t get them down on paper!

Someday…

Here’s some things that caught my eye last week:

Sewing Through Fog
Obsessed with the work of textile upcycler and modern quilter Radha. Not only did I learn about how toxic synthetic indigo is when making and producing denim, but I was inspired how she repurposes denim that was on its way to a landfill to make stunning quilts and other interesting things.

Dining Room Record Room
This is a really awesome way to display and store a person record collection.

Riona Buthello
I’m a sucker for bokeh in photography. These painting by Riona Buthello beautifully capture a moment that a photograph might not be able to capture. I especially love
Faded, “Beyond The Blur”, and “Am I Alone?

Cardboard Sea
Love the negative space lettering process in Cheryl Cochran’s sketchbooks.

Aperture by Hannah Jadagu
One of Hannah Jadagu’s songs has been on rotation in my quarterly playlist (been making these every quarter since 2012). I finally listened to all of Aperture and WOW I have been missing out on such a nice album!
